The staff was great
“Deer Island staff was very good to us. We have never been to the course before, and the staff made us feel welcome. Peter worked with us, and we felt like we were important to him. He worked with me to get 12 guys on the course for 36 holes. It was the best experience I have ever had working with pro shop staff. Everyone from the cart girl to the bar staff were nice to us. The wildlife was neat—there were more alligators there then we have ever seen on any other course. We will be back next year to plan again.” – SR from Indiana.
A pleasurable golf experience
“This has been one of our most pleasurable golf experiences of our trip. We have been coming to the Orlando area for the past several years. Great service; great price for a course that is challenging yet fair. Absolutely would come back!” – Curtis H
Exceptionally take care of
“From the moment we arrived, we were taken care of exceptionally. Peter in the clubhouse was polite, courteous and excellent to work with. This is a beautiful 18-hole course with challenging holes and well taken care of greens. Overall it was an amazing experience, and I hope we can come back soon.” – Jonny K. from Rapid City.

Great golf, scenery and wildlife
“If you’re looking for a challenging golf course, look no further. Deer Island will keep your attention. One of Joe Lee’s best designs. Water on every whole, an abundance of wildlife (eagles, alligators), and some of the best views of Lake Dora. The price is right, the course is great and the conditions are very good.” – Venz66, Orlando
New Owners, new ideas
“This golf club appears to be going through a transition. It was called Deer Island, then some bright marketing man decided it should be called ‘International Golf’ but with new owners it is returning to Deer Island. Played there in the crazily hot Florida weather and were a group of very few golfers. No waiting and no being chased from behind. It was $30 for a round. The course has lots of water and some really pretty holes with rustic bridges and views over to Mount Dora. It is on a housing development however the houses are not that close to the fairways. There is plenty of opportunity for the sighting of wildlife and there were warnings for gators and snakes. The Club is in a period of change with new owners and new ideas. The course was in pretty good condition … as a course for a high 20’s handicap it was enjoyable and I would return on a cooler day” – keithY651
Challenging layout, great vistas, plenty of wildlife and hazards
“This is a favorite of golfers in the area. Competing with all the golf showplaces in Orlando this tract stands on its own. The Joe Lee/ Dick Wilson design will test your skills regardless of your ability. Over 7,000 yards from the tips will test even the long hitters. There is water and other hazards throughout the entire 18 holes. The routing is very special and although you will play around some impressive home sites the course never loses its remote, woodsy feel. The vistas are impressive as you play along lakes Dora and Beauclair. Wildlife abounds and as with all Florida remote areas; when the weather’s right there will be gators everywhere. It’s reasonably priced and guaranteed to test you. Bring an extra sleeve.” – Realtor44
Played here 3/3/16
“The course was in good winter shape but the greens were excellent! This is one of my favorite Fla. courses.” – dwm2757
A gatored community!
“When the water doesn’t get you, the finger bunkers might. Bordered on both sides of the course by lakes. Very scenic inland Florida course. Can be windy. Wildlife spottings abundant in the water and up above. Takes some time to get there, but not to get a round in. Holes consistently surprise you with their variety. A gatored community!” – CTRiverGolfer
Favorite course in the area
“This course has been our favorite while staying in the area for the month of January. We keep coming back for more. The course is fun and challenging and the wildlife is spectacular. We saw eagles, hawks, alligators and otters. The staff is very welcoming.” – Stan S
Golfing with Nature!
“An absolute beautiful setting amidst the birds, snakes and gators of central Florida. One of the tougher courses in the area. It has great scenery and water, water and more water everywhere. If you are a high handicapper (18 or above or can’t hit it straight) bring plenty of balls. The service along with the cold beer after the round is superb. Put this course on your list if you are in the Mount Dora area.” – Peter L
Beautiful Course
“Had a Groupon group golfer coupon and took advantage of playing this top-notch course. In great shape; very challenging to be sure. Would go back in a flash!” – Jake and Cleo
Plenty of water!
“Second time here and it didn’t disappoint. Service was excellent and the course was in good condition. Not really long but water on every hole. Greens were good and fairways were pretty soft, not much roll off the tee. Plenty of wildlife around and the surroundings are beautiful.” – JensogSetta
On my top 5 list (and it’s not easy to get on that list)
“I loved everything about this course. Water, every hole, so bring your target golf skills and plenty of confidence. Beautiful bunkers with fluffy sand. It might just be a nature preserve, there were countless species of birds and of course, gators. The staff is friendly and helpful. I just can’t say enough great things.” – Kathy A

Great Shape!
“The course has healed from the last aerification and is in very good shape right now. Great layout, one of a kind design!” – TIU
Water, water everywhere
“You need great course management skills to navigate through Deer Island. Water comes into play on all of the holes. Forced carries, strategic placement of shots demand course management. Somewhat challenge to your game. Not for the faint of heart. If you like easy, this isn’t your course but if you like to be challenged, this is your type of course.” – rwmichaelis
Great course and conditions
“Love the layout of this course. Conditions are real good. Fifteen of 18 greens excellent, other 3 in good condition. A few fairways were not cut because of big rain the night before. Do not hesitate to play this excellent demanding course. I got an $18 Golf Now Hot Deal and played as a single about 8 a.m. I play the “one man scramble” (hitting 2 balls on every shot) and try to shoot even par, which I did. It is an excellent way to practice your club selection.” – 42844
Bring a good amount of golf balls
“This course is pretty far out there, but one of the toughest courses you’ll play in central FL. If it’s your first time, I recommend you get a yardage book as there is a lot of hazards that come into play on each hole during the round. Putting the ball in the right place is key. If you are working on fixing your slice or hook, best to leave this course off your list until you’ve fixed it as it will eat those shots alive. The course is in good shape. All in all, a good course to test your ball striking and placement of shots.” – fagolf
